Description
An international grape variety exported from France and cultivated all over the world. It originated in Persia, in the town of Shiraz, from which it travelled to Italy in ancient times, arriving in the Sicilian city of Syracuse. Analysis of its DNA has indicated affinities with
the grape varieties of Trentino-Alto Adige, Teroldego and Lagrein, although the finest expression of the varietal characteristics is obtained in the central-southern regions of Italy, and in the Rhone Valley, California, South Africa and Australia.
